aired the weekend of July 4th & 5th, 2009: |
Our Featured Artists on this program were the Pfeifers
from Washington Court House, Ohio, with songs from their "Carry The
Banner" CD. Those three words, as you heard on the program, became very
special to John and Candy Pfeifer when their dying and otherwise
uncommunicative preacher-father spoke them quite clearly to them. Those words
then became part of the "That's My Dad" song that we included on this
program. We had played it, too, on the Father's Day program a few weeks ago
and got quite a few inquiries about it. Their song "I Will Stand" says what
we, as Christians, need to say and to do in these troubled times when our
faith is under attack from all sides. "He Still Does It All," the
Pfeifers' current featured radio song, is a good reminder for us that God
is still actively working in and through our lives, even now. It was great
to visit with the Pfeifers as they, more than ever, do, indeed, strive to
"Carry the Banner" for the Lord.
The Pfeifers' CD featured on this program, "Carry
The Banner," is available from our mailorder service, Springside. Just
call 1-800-38-MUSIC to order. Call by Friday, July 10, 2009, ask for the
"Featured Artist Discount," and get 20 percent off this item. You
can order easily from our webstore by
using this
link to go directly to this item. Note, too, that our "Featured Artist
Discount" applies to any other currently in-stock recordings by this artist.
When you order online, when you get to the "Checkout" page, find the "Special
Instructions" lines near the bottom, type in "Featured Artist Discount -
20 percent" to get the discount. Note that the discounted price will not
be reflected online or in your first confirmation e-mail, but it will be
applied here when the order is processed and before it is charged or shipped.
(Orders over $40 in the USA qualify for free shipping.)
Our Artist Spotlight segments are not an every-week
feature of The Gospel Greats program, coming perhaps twice each month.
This time our Spotlight was on soloist Lynda Randle, who's become
well-known in recent years for her appearances on the Gaither Homecoming
tours. She's becoming quite a songwriter, too, as you heard in her song included
on this program, "Just Passing Through." What a great song to serve
as a reminder to Christians that this life is not all there is -- but the
Lord wants us to make the most of it in His service. Lynda's CD, "I'm Free,"
is available from Springside.com on the same basis as the Featured Artist
CDs (above).
Here's the
link for Lynda's CD. She also has a
DVD by
the same title.
On
this program I announced that we will be having our next Listener Favorite
Call-In on Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2009, from noon to 6 p.m. Eastern
(USA) time. We really would like to hear from you. Full
details can be found on our website. But please mark that date
on your calendar so you can remember to call. (We used to announce it
primarily the same weekend as the Call-In, but several stations air the program
after the Call-In time. So, especially if you hear our program on one of
those stations, we didn't want you to miss it. So we announced it a week
early.)

| From the program
aired the weekend of June 27th & 28th, 2009: |
Our Featured Artists on this program were the
Mark Trammell Trio with songs from their current "Always Have A
Song" CD. Included, of course, was the very popular song, "Loving
The Lamb." As you heard Mark mentioned, this song is over five minutes
in length, which is unusually long for a song that is sent out for featured
radio play. (That's because DJs generally prefer shorter songs so they can
fit more different songs into the allotted time.) Nevertheless, the message
of this song is so powerful that it easily overcomes that handicap, becoming
very popular.
Mark Trammell and Dustin Sweatman remain as two-thirds of this
trio, but Eric Phillips is leaving. So they're presently looking for
a replacement.
The Mark Trammell Trio CD featured on this program,
"Always Have A Song," is available from our mailorder service, Springside.
Just call 1-800-38-MUSIC to order. You can order easily from our webstore
by using
this link to go directly to this item. (Orders over $40 in the USA
qualify for free shipping.)
The Mark Trammell Trio homecoming is coming in late July. More info

Congratulations
to Ralph Edwards of Lilburn, Georgia. (Most people, he says, call
him "Doug.") He's the winner of the Three-Day Vacation Package
at the National Quartet Convention this September in Louisville, Kentucky.
As you heard him mention on the air, he's always wanted to go to the NQC
and this makes his first trip there possible. Thanks to all of you
who entered and to Clarke Beasley and the National Quartet Convention for
making this great prize available. Info about the NQC can be found online
at www.natqc.com.
This was
our official Singing News Top 20 Countdown Edition, covering the top
20 songs on the chart published in the magazine's new July issue. Our monthly
countdown edition is normally heard the final weekend of each month, reflecting
the published chart carrying the following month's date.
From everything we're hearing, Southern Gospel concert attendances have been
on a par with what they've been in recent years perhaps better. That's
despite the current economic downturn we keep hearing so much about. You
heard comments to this effect from Mark Trammell (who sees it as an
artist) and, on the Headline Update, from Jim Heffner, head
of the Southern Gospel Promoters Association. We've seen this before.
In difficult times, people find reassurance in the encouraging message of
the Gospel.

These "Current Information" listings are dated to correspond to the
program that is provided to stations to air on a specific weekend. Sometimes,
for whatever reason, a few stations may inadvertantly air the wrong
programa week early or perhaps late. That is why you might be hearing
dated references on the program that don't make sense, including references
to future or outdated giveaways. Fortunately, this kind of occurrance is
very rare. But please let us know
if you notice this happening regularly on your local station.
