| From the broadcast
the weekend of Oct. 18th & 19th, 2008: |
Our Featuerd Artists on this program were Karen Peck &
New River with songs from their brand new CD entitled "Ephesians One."
In terms of radio airplay, this group is arguably one of the most popular
groups out there today in Southern Gospel music. Their "Journey of Joy"
CD has resulted in three number one songs! Will their new CD manage to
do that? Time will tell, of course, but there are several good possibilities
on there. "I Want To Thank You" is their new radio song, and, although
it's a bit different from other recent songs, is still "Karen Peck &
New River" to the core. "Ephesians One," the song, is a great reminder
of who we are in Christ as Christians. In fact, all of the songs are that,
in one way or another. I especially enjoyed the "bonus cut" on this CD that
brought back memories of when Karen sang it with the Nelons, "We
Shall Wear a Crown," a song that was often referred to as "Robe and Crown."
(I did, though, miss hear's Rex Nelon's bass on there.) Overall, this new
CD should be another winner for Karen Peck & New River.

Our Artist Spotlight guests on this program were the
"Sisters." They are, of course, actual sisters Kim Lord,
Heather Day and Valerie Ellenburg. You got to know them as members
of the Ruppes over the years, as they sang with their mother,
Brenda. Now they sing as part of the group LordSong, with Kim's
husband, Michael. But they also get a chance to sing together as a
trio (sort of as a "subset" of LordSong). And because they do, they recorded
the CD called "Sisters," a few songs from which we shared on this
program. More info about LordSong can found
at their website. (We'll
visit with them as LordSong later.)
I
had forgotten how strong an impact the Kingsmen "song" from 1984,
"The Game Of Life," could have until I dug it out and listened to
it again. It seemed timely with the baseball playoffs underway and the baseball
World Series just around the corner. But it really did and does
have a strong message at the end. The late Jim Hammil was perfect
in his role as the play-by-play announcer. After I chose to play it I realized
it's available once again on the current "Kingsmen Collection" CD,
available
through our webstore.
