| From the broadcast
the weekend of Oct. 11th & 12th, 2008: |
Our Featured Artists on this program were Greater Vision, with songs
from their brand new CD called "Not Alone." This is the first recording
Greater Vision has done since changing tenors. Jacob Kitson fits right
in, preserving the sound very much as it's been for years. The difference,
of course, is where he's featured solo on a few songs. But the overall "feel"
remains the same. This particular CD is strong lyrically, something for which
Greater Vision has long been known. Their current radio hit, "I Want To
Know That You Know," shares a concern that each of us should have for
everyone we know, especially family members. I especially enjoyed the message
of "You Were Faithful Yesterday," a song praising God's faithfulness
yesterday, today and forever. Rodney Griffin's story about
why his song, "It Pays To Pray," became so special to him after he
wrote it was a touching reminder of the value of persistence in prayer. What
I like about Greater Vision, too, is that they've been blessed to take their
music into many of the nation's largest churches, thereby exposing an ever-larger
number of people to good Southern Gospel music. More information about Greater
Vision can be found on
their website.

Doyle Lawson, with whom
we visited on an Artist Spotlight segment on this program, is a very interesting
man. He's a pleasure to talk with. Although he and his group, Doyle Lawson
& Quicksilver, have been best known in bluegrass music, his music
always has a strong Gospel component. And this year Southern Gospel fans
strongly favored their song "Help Is On The Way," sending it to the
number one spot on Singing News magazine's Southern Gospel chart in September.
As Doyle mentioned, it just goes to show that "God's work is universal,"
and the strong message cuts across stylistic lines. It will be interesting
to see how their new single does. "Eternity Has Two" has one of the
strongest salvation messages in any of today's songs, simply reminding us
that there are only two choices for eternity a choice that must be
made by each of us on a timely basis.
Congratulations to Brittany (of the
Galloways) and her husband, J. D. Inman, owner of Inman Realty
Group in Franklin, TN. They were married Sept. 29th. Brittany is no stranger
to Southern Gospel Music, having performed with her family for over ten years.
She will continue traveling with her family, the Galloways, and the couple
will make their home in Franklin, Tennessee. Brittany is the daughter of
Earl and Scharlene Galloways. From their
website: Scharlene
says, "JD is a welcome addition to our family and we look forward to the
days ahead." Brittany and Earl recount the proposal. Brittany begins, "JD
called me on Wednesday, July 2nd, and asked if I'd like to come over and
hang out for a while. As I was on my way he sent a text message saying he
had to run an errand but to let myself in, that he would be back shortly."
Earl continues, "In the meantime JD was heading to our home. He walked straight
through the door, stuck out his hand, and said, "I'm here to have a conversation
you've been dreading your whole life..."Can I marry your daughter?" The answer
was obviously yes. Scharlene and I could not have selected a more perfect
person for Brittany to share her life with."
