From the broadcast the weekend of Aug. 16th & 17th, 2008:

Click for Michael Combs Michael Combs, our Featured Artist on this program, is one-of-a-kind. His voice is unmistakable. His songwriting is distinctive. His singing style is...well...Michael Combs. Michael wrote all of the on his "Soldier" CD that was featured on this broadcast. Michael says he seldom has any problem deciding which songs to record — because he writes just enough for the recording. As you heard Michael say on the air, he's had some rough years, health-wise, including when he needed a liver transplant back in 1991. But, as he told you, a lot of people are praying for him daily. "As a result, I've been able to stay out there nearly every weekend singing for Jesus." More info about Michael can be found on his website, www.michaelcombs.com.

Jake HessThanks to all of you who wrote to say how much you've been enjoying our "Yesterday's Voices" feature this summer. On this broadcast you heard the late, great Jake Hess. Jake was an exceptional man by anyone's standards. And he could sing, too! Those of us who got to visit with Jake even occasionally were quite blessed. And, as you heard him say, Jake felt extremely blessed to have been enabled by God to fulfill his life's desire to sing with some of the top quartets of the age.

Robin Noël This broadcast included an Artist Spotlight segment with soloist Robin Noël. (I finally figured out how to get those two little dots above the "e," which is Robin's preferred spelling.) Robin lives in Naples, Florida, with her husband (they were married in January), but she travels all over the USA — and to several foreign countries — to sing. Robin told me she can relate to people she encounters who are facing various issues in their lives: "I didn't get married until I was 39. And for a young lady, sometimes that can seem like an eternity. And you just wonder, Lord, what are you doing? And so I feel like I can relate to a lot of those emotions of the heart where you say, 'What is God doing today?'... The Lord has a purpose for all that. I had a serious relationship in high school and thought that was the person I was going to marry. [But] the Lord instead allowed me to have a minsitry for over 20 years before I was allowed to also get married... But even when I was traveling alone...the Lord always provided something or somebody to help me along the way as if He was right there with me. So the Lord does give you those signs of hope even though you don't really know what's going on." That ties in well with what Robin considers her life verse, Isaiah 41:10: "Fear thou not, neither be dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen thee, I will help thee, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my Father." More information about Robin Noël can be found at www.robinnoel.com.
