the weekend of Aug. 2nd & 3rd, 2008: |
You'd have to conduct quite a lengthy search to find, in all of Southern
Gospel music, a man as humble, kind, gentle and, yes, as gifted as our Featured
Artist on this program, Squire Parsons. In fact, he had a nickname
years ago when he was with the Kingsmen the "Gentle Giant." And
it fit. His singing, his preaching and, of course, his prolific songwriting
all glorify the Lord. Songs heard on this broadcast were from Squire's
"Havin' A Good Ole Gospel Time" CD. Usually when Squire travels he
has two assistants with him, his son, Samuel, and Michael
Torrence. Those two join him to sing as a trio, often before Squire preaches.
But in about half of their appearances they have a fourth member along to
sing bass, Terry Bollinger. It's this quartet that's featured on the
CD that we featured. More information about Squire can be found on his website,
www.squireparsons.com.
Please remember we have a trivia question active right now, the answer
to which was heard during one of the Featured Artist visits on this program.
To learn the question and, if you know it, to supply the answer,
click here and perhaps you'll win a
fine prize if your entry is drawn from all of those that are correct.
I'm enjoying our "Yesterday's Favorites" features this summer. On
this program you heard from the legendary J. D. Sumner. Yes, this
famous and seemingly gruff bass singer did actually choke up a bit during
our 1997 interview as he talked about his many long-time friends on the Southern
Gospel music circuit, many of whom had already passed away. Are you enjoying
these "Yesterday's Voices" features?
Please
let me know.
Willis Canada always is a "fun" visit, and you heard him on this program's
Artist Spotlight segment. Willis has been traveling to sing his Gospel music
for more than 25 years, after the Lord called him out of a career in banking,
as you heard on the air. As his website says, "Willis believes that he
has been called to take God's message to all who will listen. He feels it
is expedient to tell the non-Christian of God's love and saving power, and
to tell the body of Christ that we can be 'Sealed To The Day Of Redemption,'"
as he's said in one of his songs. More info about Willis Canada can be
found on his website,
www.williscanada.com. His "He
Brought Me All The Way" CD, which includes his songs heard on this program,
is available through our webstore,
springside.com.
