| From the broadcast
the weekend of July 12th & 13th, 2008: |
Our Featured Artists on this program, Gold City, have been in the
forefront of Southern Gospel quartet singing since they burst onto the scene
in a big way back in the early 1980s. As is inevitably the case, group members
have changed over the years but the tradition lives on. Today's group includes
Daniel Riley (baritone), Steve Ladd (tenor), Aaron McCune
(bass), Bruce Taliaferro (lead) and pianist Josh Simpson. Songs
on this program were from their brand new CD entitled "Moment of Truth."
"I Cast My Bread Upon The Water," and old Hemphills song, is Gold
City's first radio single from the CD and is sure to get a lot of attention.
(The sound is reminiscent of the Oak Ridge Boys of years ago.) "What
Children Believe" is sure to get a lot of attention. And I especially
enjoyed their stirring declaration in song of their purpose, "By Your
Grace and For Your Glory." I hope Southern Gospel radio treats these
songs songs well. They deserve it.

The King's Heralds,
heard during our Artist Spotlight segment on this broadcast, are one of the
most unique quartets out there today. They can sing just about any musical
style and do it to technical perfection. That includes, of course, classic
Southern Gospel quartet singing, as you heard. And, as you also heard, they're
also known for their acapella singing. With group roots dating back to 1927,
today's quartet includes Don Scroggs (1st tenor), Russell Hospedales
(baritone), Joel Borg (2nd tenor) and Jeff Pearles (bass).
To Southern Gospel fans, Jeff is probably the best-known of this group, having
sung with the Palmetto State Quartet and other groups. With all the hype
about the Olympics in China, you'll be interested to know that the King's
Heralds (a few years ago) became the first Christian gospel group from the
West to tour in the Peoples Republic of China since 1949.
